HWeb SafetyNet - Installation and Configuration
SafetyNet Installation, Setup and Configuration
Overview and Background:
HWeb SafetyNet is intened primarily as a secondary method for clients to backup HWeb data. SafetyNet is not intended to serve as the primary method for backing up a client database. HWeb SafetyNet is also intended to backup only Hudson & HWeb files. Though other client files may be added to the backups, this must be approved through Hudson Management first and usually incurs higher SafetyNet fees. The SafetyNet program works on a 10 day rotation. In other words, SafetyNet will allow you at any point in time to restore (roll back) your system to a date in very recent history, no more than 10 days back. The data which is backed up on day 1, will be overwritten on day 11. Data backed up day 2 will be overwritten with the data from day 12, and so on. SafetyNet is therefore not intended as a means of archiving data.
Setup and Installation
Step 2. Check the SQL Backup name - should reflect the client name or code: ex: hudson, hg1, etc.
Step 3. Check the backup directory. Make sure the SQL backup is going to the Hudson Backups folder on the server.
Step 4. Check Hudson HWeb folder on server. Remove any miscellaneous or zip files (delete or place in backup folder). The goal here is to clean up the folder and remove files that do not need to be backed up as the entire contents of the folder will be included in the backup. Repeat for the CSV’s and Shortcuts folders.
Download and Installation of the executable:
ftp://hudsonltd4.com/SafetyNetsDepending on the client database size, use the corresponding sized executable. Larger clients will require the 10GBData.exe. Smaller accounts will be able to use 4GBData.exe (check size of compacted database (Res2) before downloading and installing). The size here does not correspond to the database size, but rather the size of space reserved (in total) on the backup server for this client. The total space 4GB or 10 GB is how large the total compressed backups may be over a 10 day period. You should allow for some file expansion and client growth over the next year or two before selecting which program to install.
For Example: Client with medium Res2 database may be 500MB. When compressed and sent to SafetyNet servers, size may be 140MB. Subsequent backups over the next 9 days will be updated files only and may be only 5-20 MB in size, or smaller. In this case the total space required for the 10 day backup is less than 1 GB. The 4GB server should be fine.
- Save appropriate program to HudsonInstall folder on server.
- Run the Install Program
- Accept Initial default settings.
- Run
- Register New Account (if registration fails, ensure port 16384 is open)
- Enter Contact information: Primary contact or owner in FIRST NAME Field and company name in LAST NAME field, as well as COMPANY. If unknown, check the Hudson CRM pages and use the contact info listed here.
- Password: 6 characters long (minimum).
- Do not use Firewall
- Finish
Print Account Registration information. Save as PDF and send to Tech support Manager. This information will be posted in folder on Hudson online servers (currently LTD1 & LTD3) so that it is available for emergency restore.
Set SafetyNet backup schedule
- Daily, 7 days per week.
- Time: early AM, after the Enterprise Manager SQL backup is completed.
File Selection: "Let me select which files and/or directories to backup."
Grooming is to include only the following (unless otherwise previously arranged through Management)
- HWeb Folder - All files in directory
- CSV’s Folder - All files in directory
- Shortcuts Folder - All files in directory
- Backups Folder - Only select database backup name from Step 2 at beginning.
This will start the initial/first Backup. Remember that logging off your Terminal Services connection will terminate the initial backup. Clicking the X in the top corner of the TS window should close the session but leave the backup running. If in doubt, minimize the TS window and check periodically for status of backup. The initial backup is much longer than subsequent backups. Subseqent backups are only including updated or modified files.
After the backup is done, select Options, File Share, Permissions, then ADD the folowing Hudson Account numbers to the list: 10127-20379, 10180-01018 and 10144-18579.
Add SafetyNet shortcut to client server desktop (may be copied from Start Programs Hudson Group menu)
Make note of the client Encryption Key: Open SafetyNet program, select Options Security View Encryption Key.
The Safety Net account number and encryption key must be added to the CRM system.
To check account information or backup history online at the backup server:
https://supportcenterab.connected.com/supportcenter/login.asp.
Contact the Tech Support manager for the login names and passwords to access the 10GB and 4 GB backup servers.
Installing SafetyNet will add the application to the startup folder - starting the application anytime the server is started. If the network is running MS Server2003, additional steps must be taken to add the application to the Scheduler.
Multiple Backups a Day
If it is necessary to add the SafetyNet application to the scheduler because client would like multiple backups a day. Use the Windows scheduler, you can launch the backup by using a -be command. To open Scheduled Tasks, click Start, click All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click Scheduled Tasks. - If you want to configure advanced settings for the task, select the Open advanced properties for this task when I click Finish check box on the final page of the wizard.
- Confirm that the system date and time on your computer are accurate, because Scheduled Tasks relies on this information to run scheduled tasks. To verify or change this information, double-click the time indicator on the taskbar.
- If you leave the password blank and you want the task to run when you are logged on, open the task. On the Task tab, select the Run only if logged on check box. The task will run at its scheduled time when the user who created the task is logged on to the computer.
- The task should be configured to run nightly (after the SQL backup). The command line should look similar to: "c:program fileshudson groupolbackup.exe" -be
Setting up an Exclusion:
SafetyNet will try to backup a resfc.ldb file, if it is open, and will lock or freeze. You should add *.upd and *.ldb to the list of files to be excluded from SafetyNet Backup.
Options - Advanced Backup Rules - Exclusions.
