What email SMTP types does Hudson Support?

SMTP stands for Simple Mail Transfer Protocol and is the general text-based protocol recognized and used by the vast majority of email providers.

Hudson applications generate various documents (confirmations, tickets, boarding passes, etc.) which can be sent by the Hudson applications themselves.  Hudson has built and included a generic SMTP engine capable of creating the email, and then connecting to the clients preferred email handler (e.g. Comcast, Yahoo, AOL, etc.) to actually deliver the outgoing email message.

Hudson clients therefore need to have an account with an established email provider, in order to generate and send emailed documents from Hudson applications.

At present, the SMTP protocol included in Hudson applications works easily and successfully with most commonly used eMail providers including (but not limited to):

  • AOL
  • Comcast
  • Yahoo
  • Time Warner - RoadRunner
  • ....many many others

As of this writing, we have identified the following provider(s) with whom our SMTP service will not successfully transmit email messages:
  • Google Mail (gmail): this is due to requirement of secure mail session (TLS - Transport Layer Security (Encryption)) not currently supported by HWeb applications.
