Hudson Applications and Windows 7

As more clients deploy Hudson applications in Windows 7 environment, additional configuration items are coming to light. Though tested in current versions of the Windows OS, occasionally new items are discovered that were unknown.

Problem:

HWeb Dispatcher will not launch or HWeb Dispatcher crashes on exit

Resolution:

In Windows 7, HWeb Dispatcher requires administrative privileges to run (UAC - User Access Control). Update 1.93 (4774) should resolve most of these issues. See background information below for further details.
Background:The UAC issue was caused by the name of the executable (HWebDispatcher), apparently ‘dispatch’ is reserved and triggers the fact that this application must require higher privileges. The installer has been modified to create a second copy of the dispatcher called ‘HWebDisp.exe’  Users that are experiencing the problem will have to modify their shortcuts accordingly. The Dispatcher crash on close was related to the cleanup of the shared memory region used for intertask communications.  If DispITC was set to zero the user would not experience the failure.  This has been resolved and intertask communications have been tested in Windows 7.  Additional diagnostic information has been added to debug future issues. Dispatcher and DispCtrl (DispTools) cleanup are now more consistent, hopefully assuring that all the resources are being properly returned.
