Previously, it would cost $1,500 or more to install a mobile computer or MDT (Mobile Data Terminal) into a vehicle. With many netbook units now available for about $300, it is simple and easy to deploy VoIP (Voice over Internet), turn-by-turn directions, GPS tracking, credit card acceptance, in-car printing and receipts, traffic alerts, and much more.

Running a standard Microsoft Windows operating system, these devices have a familiar look and feel for the end user and require a very short learning period. Coupled with high speed mobile Internet and a built-in camera, these devices also can be used to augment existing vehicle safety and communications equipment.

Integrated into Hudson’s suite of reservation, dispatching and communication technologies, these netbooks allow drivers to receive reservation details as well as dispatch messages and alerts. The units further allow for drivers to complete a partial or complete trip closeout or reconciliation process during their shifts. This shortens the amount of time required in the back office to review and finalize trip details before generating invoices or system reports. Netbook computers are now being considered for installation in sedans, vans, limousines, and motorcoaches across Hudson’s client base.
