What is the Alternate Fare Key Column in a CSV File used for?

Alternate Fare Keys

In most fare.csv files, the third column (C) on the fare table template is labled Alternate Fare Key. This column allows you to list a single location, that may be known by many or different names, in a Pickup Location drop down list in the local system or on the web, without having to re-enter the location details, travel times, fares, etc. for each location.

Example: You have a hotel in Boston which has been aquired by a different Hotel Management company.  The hotel has been known as   The Best Hotel,  Hotel Best,  Holiday Inn Best, etc.

You create your first fare key (ex: 191) and complete all details, fares, etc. for this Hotel, listing it as  "Best Hotel".

On the next line, or any other line, you create a new fare key (ex: 221), enter your next hotel name / alias (ex:  Holiday Inn Best), and in the Alternate Fare Key field, you enter fare key 191.  No other information for this location is needed. It will be loaded or pulled from fare key 191.

On the next line, or any other line, you create another new fare key (ex: 222), enter your next hotel name / alias (ex: Hotel Best), and in the Alternate Fare Key field, you enter fare key 191. No other information for this location is needed. It will be loaded or pulled from fare key 191.

The end result is that after importing your fare file and refreshing your configuration, you can start a reservation and select any one of the 3 (or more) hotel names from the Pickup/Dropoff location drop down list - all will appear alphabetically in the list. All travel times, fares, address info, phone info, etc will be pulled or loaded from fare key 191.
